I just inherited a 4 step scissor step for a truck camper. I have my 850s sitting pretty high so this is a welcome addition. BIG question I have is that there are no instructions and I am not positive how to mount this. Is is kind of like this one http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-steps/truck-camper-steps.htm but not exactly. SO.....the question I have is can I just screw this directly into the rear bumper via the mounting bar or do I need to buy a mounting kit?

There is a mount that I have seen on these that has 2 "J" hooks on it. Like this one maybe?

From Here:

http://www.rbcomponents.com/02/steps/319-aluminum-scissor-steps.html

There are lots of manufactures that make these steps. I would call those a great find. These steps are wonderful you can just fold them up and set them just inside the door. Then when you get to your destination you pull them out and hang them on the "J" hooks and you are ready to go.

On Edit: These folks make scissor steps and are in your area kinda.

Funny I just posted this on RV.Net today for someone else. This is how I mounted my steps to my stock mounting bracket. If there is something that is not clear and you are interested, let me know.

Dave:
How much of a drop is the first step down compared to the remaining steps?

Don,
It is less than the drop of the stock step. I know it is different, but frankly I've never noticed it. The next step in my case is the bumper itself. Maybe a couple inches different??

The Sissor Steps I put on my camper has a U rail that is almost as wide as the steps. That you mount on the bumper. I set mine so that the top step is even with the top of the bumper. Makes a nice deep step at the door that way.

When the steps are not in use I just turn them upside dowm and sit the on the rug just in side the door. They travel fine that way. And I don't mine takeing them off and on all the time. Thats no big deal to me. And with the folding Hand Rail I put on That helps old farts like us keep our balance.

AS you can see it folds across the door so you nver have to worry about the rear door coming open while your driving.

We have the same mount for our scissor steps as Thepadg does; however, we have a 5-step one and our U-rail is mounted just below the door rather than on the bumper because the step up from the bumper into the rig was killing me...or, rather, my hip! The way we have our steps mounted, I can now walk up the steps directly into the camper.

I'll admitt sometimes a 5 step would be nice to have, I've had to put a 2"x6" under it a cuople of times now.

We just purchased our 2004 EC 800 and needed to mount the steps to something so I came up with this storage box. 9" deep x 15" tallx 90" long. This gives us a "stoop" to stand on that is twice the depth of the step. I mounted it to the camper tie down brackets with a pair of receivers and hitch pins.

that looks awesome.. I have the hollow rear bumper and a storeag below the door. Not sure how I'm gonna mount my scissor steps yet. Those uber tall factory steps are too much for this old paratrooper...

Tburk49760:
If you get steps like mine with the U bracket to hang it on. You could mount it like I did at the top of the bumper or the U bracket could be put tright under the door. It would mean a 5 or 6 step unite depending on the height of your camper door from the ground and if it would clear the bumper. that way you could still use the basement storage under the door just by removeing the steps. I carry my steps just in side the door on a rug and put them on when we need to get in the camper. that works fine for us.

That's prolly what I will end up doing. Some kind of quick release like the factory u bracket. My set is a 6 step from my previous camper. The bracket stayed on the camper :-(
Pretty sure I can fab something up tho. Mount right below the door to avoid the mega first step. May have to reinforce the area behind as the thick 2x material doesn't go low enough...
