Labor Day
Labor Day United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 6 in 2010).

The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City. In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

My new 2010 ecc950 bathroom was mega stinky after driving about 200 miles home a few days ago. I thought perhaps the p trap had emptied arxthe open vent had sucked sewer gas into the rr. I closed the vent and added water to both the sink and shower traps. I left the oor open to vent the stench then closedit all up and continued another 50 miles. Stopped for lunch and more stink. Worse than grey water. Not really like our yellow water either ( no #2 in our camper) ... Even stinks after more trap filling toilet partial fill and a few days of sitting with rinsed tanks. What the heck is happening. Btw, I use good enzymes in both tanks. Commercial stuff that I've used for many years in several campers.

If your camper is new you should take it back to the dealer and have them find the problem. Perhaps the vent pipes thru the roof are plugged. I never have any smell in my bathroom unless I open the toilet with the ceiling vent open.

I agree with Jackman with a similar track record.

It is possible the plumbing hooking the toilet to the black tank is leaking or cracked.
Warranty should properly address this.

Here's a tip from the latest issue of RV Travel (http://rvtravel.com/issue432.shtml).

Smelly black water tank?
Sometimes you get a particularly bad batch of black water. Stepping into the coach after motoring down the road may practically "blow your head off." Until you can resolve the problem by dumping the tank or discovering the cause of the big stink, try this cover up: Encase your RV toilet in a large plastic garbage bag before pulling up stakes. At times strange vacuum effects while traveling can pull black water smells up through the toilet. Covering the "pot" with a big bag reduces the effect and keeps smells at bay.

If it stops the smell then you know it's probably a leak in the toilet.

Funny that this should come up, I just had this problem. I was sure that it was the black tank but I did everything I could think of to fix it. Then I stepped into the camper one day and found that the STINK came from the SINK not the pot. Are you sure that it is coming from the black tank?

Today, after coming home from a weekend adventure, I got brave with my sniffer and it does seem to be coming from the bathroom sink. Yikes, that's ripe!! The p trap should prevent that. All windows and vents were closed to prevent suction issues. Prolly gonna take it to the dealer as time permits.

Does the sink drain into the black tank? If so this could explain the funky smell. However I would think filling the "P" trap with water would prevent the sewer gases from entering the bathroom. I guess the "P" trap is too small to hold the water in it with all the swaying and rolling while running down the road.

Another option would be to put a sink plug/stopper in the drain, if the smell is stopped then you have isolated the source. Then you can work on a permanent fix.

One idea would be to lengthen the "P" trap so the water will not splash out from movement of the TC while driving. Or continue to use the stopper in the drain.

based on the ripocity of the stench, it must be connected to the black tank. Some experimenting will be required to answer that question... my guess is that the p trap is indeed too short to maintain it's liquid seal during transport. This would be difficult to fix without major disassembly... the stopper may be the appropriate solution... stay tuned for the results...

Took it to the dealer... They filled the black tank past full and found a leak at the base of the toilet. Also confirmed that the sink goes to the grey tank. Time will tell if this was indeed the problem. Not taking it out til July 6 for a week long boondock jeep trip. Cautiously optimistic.

Did they say what was leaking? Was it the base gasket or part of the toilet it self?

On my 2003 950, the bathroom sink drains into the black tank.
When traveling, we put the stopper into the sink drain, as the P trap goes dry running down the road.

On our 950, the wet shower drain goes into the grey tank, and that gets to stinking once in awhile when the P trap goes dry.
We dose the grey tank with blue juice, and on extended trips cover the shower drain with a small piece of rubber.
No more smells in the bathroom!
