TORN DINETTE SLIDE SWEEP SEAL ISSUES!!!
#1
WE HAVE NOW TORN THE 2ND SET OF SWEEP SEALS ON THE DINETTE SLIDE. I HAD A NEW MOBILE REPAIR OUTFIT COME TO THE HOUSE (with the factory's approval) TO SEE WHY THE SLIDE IS TEARING THE SWEEP SEAL.
THE FIRST TORN SWEEP SEAL WAS REPLACED AT THE SELLING DEALERSHIP BEFORE WE TOOK ORIGINAL DELEVERY OF THE CAMPER.  THE CAMPER ARRIVED FROM THE FACTORY WITH A TORN SWEEP SEAL. THE SEAL WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME (SEPT 2012) but it was never diagnosed why the seal was torn.

This past month when the mobile repair tech came out, he took measurements of the clearance on all 4 corners of the slide wall/camper.

What he found was the front top corner had much more room between the slide wall and the cut out in the camper wall.
The rear top corner of the slide wall and the camper wall had hardly any clearance, therefore the dinette slide box would pinch the inner and outer sweep seals and tear the seals when opening and closing the slide. (Rubber seals pinched between the slide box and the camper wall cut-out hole.)

After this information was presented to the factory, the factory told the tech to loosen and remove the bolts bolting the slide box to the camper floor/slide rails and move the dinette wall slide box forward 3/8" towards the front of the camper, drill all new holes in my new camper and reinstall the bolts, as the thought is, it will give the upper rear corner more room/clearance thus not pinching the sweep seal. (now I have 6-8 additional holes in the slide box then there was when I purchased it.)

Tech will be back out on the 27th of this month to move the slide forward and replace the sweep seals.

I will keep you posted and updated as we will be using the camper the weekends of the 27th 6th out at deer camp.

Update 10/03/13
Jason from Accurate RV back.
Jason was told by the factory to move the slide box forward 3/8" and replaced the torn seal. He told myself and E.C. factory (Brad) that the measurements for the top corners of the box did not change but the front bottom is now tighter and he is fearful that now the bottom front and upper rear may now tear the sweep seals in both the upper rear and lower front.

It will have to tear again before the factory will address it again.
They hope the moving of the box forward 3/8" will fix it and so do I.

We will keep an eye on the seals.

UPDATE 11/10/13
Took the camper off the truck today to winterize the camper. (Will de-winterize it for the Beavers game on the 23rd and winterize it again)
Noticed that when camper was on the truck, the sweep seal is pinching between the camper wall opening upper rear dinette corner and the slide box.

But when the camper is unloaded, it pinches more, the slide box is pinching tighter, it seems that the pressure put onto the camper jack, on the drivers rear corner of the camper causes the floor to flex.

Updated: 11/18/13 I spoke with the former Eagle Cap production manager today and told him what was happening, and he confirmed that the drivers rear corner floor is flexing.

Is it starting to sound like the box is not square?

You might try checking the "squareness" of the slideout box with a carpenters square.
It will require blocking up a couple of surfaces and probably some additional innovation to make it so that the carpenters square will "fit" the slideout box.

I would also try to improvise a way to measure the slide out sides corner-to-corner.
The shop guys probably don't have the wherewithal to figure out how to measure it for squareness (if they even thought of that as a potential problem).

Another torn sweep seal. That is # 3..
I sent Brad at eagle cap photos this past weekend.

After playing with the jacks, and the dinette slide out ,what is happening is, I start out as I always have. With the camper off the truck, and the floor of the camper is "spot on" level with a 4' Johnson fiberglass contractors lever,  (no water in the tanks this time.)

The top rear of the dinette slide box rests tight against the top rear corner of the wall cut out, thus pinching the sweep seal as I have stated in earlier posts.

When I extend the drivers rear Happi Jac, the floor moves and therefore lifts the floor where the slide out is attached to the floor, so the bottom rear of the slide out lifts, this opens up the rear upper corner  gap so the seal is no longer pinching. Major floor flexing....

I will wait for what Brad at E.C. tells me what to do for remedy of continuing sweep seals being torn.

Got an email from Brad Thurs 27th asking me if they can pick up our camper on monday 12/2/13 and bring it back to the factory for repair if the tearing dinette sweep seal ( 3rd time it tore) and the wall cracking.

There are other issues that also need to be addressed .

1)Torn dinette sweep seal (3rd time it tore)
2)Cracking wall rear corner top of the dinette slide wall cutout of the wall.
3)Re-caulking the shower walls
4)Cabinet seam tape curling away from the wood in several areas of the cabinetry.
5)Molding trim pulling away at the entry door and the rear slide area ceiling to wall area.

We will hope for the best!!!!

Any idea as to when they will have a chance to tear into it?

I sent Brad at the factory an email today around 4 pm to ask him to please notify me when the problem is found, what the repair will be, and when will I get my camper back.

I will wait for the response

Perhaps you could request that the factory also permit you to view the damage before any repair work is done and if that is not possible, they need to provide you with pictures of the damage.  What is needed is some engineering eyes on this so that a proper evaluation can be made on any proposed "Fit".
